Marc Riboud, known as “Fellow Marc” among Chinese photographers as a token of esteem, is a former chairman of the world famous Magnum Photos and a renowed French photographer who is revered in Chinese photography circles. Given the humanitarian charm of his works, he is greatly respected by Chinese photographers and admired by several generations.

(…)

Marc Riboud has developed extraordinary close ties with China since his first visit to the Mainland in 1957. He has visited China over twenty times since then, capturing scenes of the adorable country with his camera. He has portrayed China and the Chinese – ranging from Premier Zhou Enlai to ordinary people – through friendly, easygoing approaches.  ‘A place is like a friend, whom you always like to visit, and witness its change and current condition. I frequently visited the Chinese Mainland, Vietnam, and India during the 1960s and 1970s. All of these places were undergoing significant historical changes and I naturally wanted to go back and visit those places, without thinking what may happen in the first instance. After all, surprise can never be predetermined’, said Marc Riboud.

Through observing Marc Riboud’s works, audience can sense how the eminent photographer captured images of instinctive moment and enriched them with eternal charm.
