João Van Zelst:

I am Portuguese and Macanese citizen. I travel to Macau often. Photography and travel go hand in hand together. I can’t do one without the other.

I have lived and travelled extensively through Asia and when returning home to Portugal I always feel the need to bring a bit of it back with me.

Photography allows me, in a way, to reflect what I want to keep close with me when I'm not present: the sights, smells and the diverse cultures I have come across. I try to focus on "street" photography or candid photography taken spontaneously, be it of people urban scenes. Some of my favorite cities for street photography where I have been are Hong Kong, Manila, Taipei, Macau and Bangkok.

I have a small project documenting daily life in some of the most exciting cities in Asia. I’m also an historian focused on heritage and culture.
