João Palla Martins:

Founder and former editorial team member of Halftone magazine, contributing through its first ten editions. He began photographing during his teenage years in Macau under the mentorship of professor and photographer António Andrade.

Rooted in documentary practice, his work invites reflection on the evolving ways we perceive, appropriate, and present images in contemporary society. Since 2017, he has been developing an ongoing photographic project focused on Luso-Asian communities, resulting in multiple exhibitions and the publication of six books as part of a dedicated collection series.

João holds a degree in Architecture, a Master’s in Design and Visual Culture, and a PhD in Art Sciences. He lives and works in Macau.

Recipient of both the Winner and Honorable Mention awards at the CIALP International Photography Competition (2023), presented by the International Council of Portuguese-Speaking Architects.
